Counselling & Therapy

I believe the greatest gift I can conceive of having from anyone is to be seen by them, heard by them, to be understood and touched by them. The greatest gift I can give is to see, hear, understand and to touch another person

I try to fully see you and listen to you. My approach is systemic, which means that I pay attention to the whole of you: your body, your feelings, your thoughts and the people around you.

In relationship counselling, this means I pay attention to each of you individually as well as what is happening between you, the cycles that you find yourself getting into, which may even have been helpful at some point, but now you feel you can somehow no longer get out of on your own.

Over the years, I have come to realise that any talking therapy needs to work with the body and the feelings that you have not (yet) been able to express in words, especially when it comes to traumatic experiences, improving intimacy and issues of anxiety. By listening to you, as well as help you work through some of your physical responses with emotion-focussed work, mindfulness techniques or hypnotherapy, I assist you in reconnecting with yourself and your deeper needs. In the relationship, we work together on helping both of you to reconnect to yourself, so that you are able to express your deeper needs and you become able to listen to your partner again with compassion.

In addition to the various therapeutic techniques that I have gathered over the years, I also use my own personal experiences of being human, living in an intercultural relationship, having moved countries a number of times, searching for belonging and raising my two kids with three languages and cultures.

Individual therapy
At times when you are finding yourself low on energy, not as happy, living in a country you were not born in can become isolating and feel like you have no ground underneath your feet. If you have moved countries, it can be all the more difficult when you are dealing with issues of loss or separation, or to cope with feelings of loneliness and disconnectness. At such times, counselling may help to support you to find your own strengths again, feel more grounded, and be able to reconnect with yourself and others around you.

Couple therapy
Do you feel you are no longer talking with your partner, but talking past each other? Has the intimacy and connection between you both faded away? Or maybe you have stopped really speaking with each other at all? And even when you are trying to do or say something different, all the other person seems to hear are words of hurt. “Maybe we are just too different” is often what I hear in a first session, especially from couples who have different cultural backgrounds.

Family therapy
Every family goes through difficult life experiences that cause stress and anxiety, which can sometimes burden your relationships more than you’d hoped or anticipated. Particularly difficult moments for a family might be the arrival of a new child, death of a family member, moving to a new country, or mental health problems of one of the family members to name a few.

Hypnotherapy
Sometimes, even when you know what's going on and what you'd like to change, you still find yourself stuck—reacting in the same way over and over, almost like it's out of your hands. Hypnotherapy can gently help you get to the root of those patterns, to more fully understand what you need in those moments and to start shifting them.
