At the Berlin Counselling office, I work together with my colleague Laura Kowalcyk, a trained psychologist and gestalt therapist, who works with me on a freelance basis. While we are independent practitioners, we share values around respectful, client-centered, and systemic work. You are free to choose who you wish to work with. This collaboration helps us offer therapy tailored to your needs in terms of both availability and cost.

Flexible session formats

After our initial session, we discuss together which frequency of sessions best suits your specific needs and preferences. Whether it’s weekly, biweekly, or monthly, we tailor our approach to your individual circumstances. Couples counselling sessions are typically spaced once every 2-3 weeks, family therapy once a month, while group therapy sessions take place once every 2 weeks.

You have the flexibility to choose between in-person sessions at the office or online sessions for your convenience.

Cancellations

You are welcome to change or cancel your appointment any time using the online calendar, via email or text message. Please note we have a 48hrs cancellation policiy. With less than 48hrs notice, we will need to charge you the fee, as it becomes too difficult to rearrange our schedule.

Health insurance & Reimbursement options

Health insurance

If you have private health insurance, either German or international, you can most likely claim back up to 40% of the session costs. Unfortunately, the sessions are not covered by the German public insurance (Krankenkasse). For clients with Dutch or international insurance, coverage is typically possible for 8-12 sessions, depending on your diagnosis. Please note that couple and family therapy sessions are not covered by any health insurance other than some US insurances.

Tax claims

It may be possible to deduct the costs for the therapy session from taxes as part of exceptional health costs, best to ask your tax advisor for more information. Coaching and supervision sessions are likely to be fully tax deductible if they are a work expense for you.

Alternative options

We understand that not everyone may be able to afford our standard fees, and we offer a limited number of sliding scale spaces for those facing significant financial constraints. Please send an email detailing your circumstances (such as being a student, currently unemployed, etc.), and we will inform you if any sliding scale spaces are available at the moment. We are also happy to assist you with any inquiries regarding your insurance coverage or discuss together a plan for spreading out the payments over a longer period of time, to help you access support.
