Supervision

Supervision

Working as an “expat” therapist in Berlin can unfortunately sometimes feel as isolating as it does for your clients. As therapists practicing in a country in which you did not do your trainining, we are faced with additional challenges: difficulties finding a professional support system and locating yourself within the wider psychotherapeutic and psychiatric system in Germany, the imposter syndrome that rears its head whenever someone doubts your credentials, the isolation of working in private practice and also of course all the “regular” challenges you experience as a therapist who has recently trained with not so much work experience yet and/or navigating the challenges of finding a sustainable way to work in private practice. Continuing your own professional development and regularly reflecting on your work in a language you can feel comfortable with is, in my experience, a vital part of self care and ensuring ongoing quality in your work.
As a trained systemic supervisor, I give you a safe space to reflect on your work and support you to grow and develop as a therapist. I work with therapists with varying theoretical approaches, as I believe it can be enriching to learn from each other’s different perspectives. Supervision means to me to provide a safe space to mindfully look together at the dynamics between you and your client(s), to work on any issues from your personal life that may impact your work at the moment and to support you in your professional development. In addition to systemic theories such as Virgina Satir’s work and narrative therapy, my approach is very much informed by Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, my own personal mindfulness practice and hypnotherapy. I currently provide supervision at my own practice and at the Medical School Berlin (MSB), as part of my teaching in systemic counselling.

I believe the greatest gift I can conceive of having from anyone is to be seen by them, heard by them, to be understood and touched by them. The greatest gift I can give is to see, hear, understand and to touch another person
